Sewer System Dissolved Sulfides Study, Industrial User Permit Compliance, Naval Air Station North Island, Coronado, CA.
TREVET evaluated sewage discharge to the City of San Diego and made recommendations to maintain dissolved sulfides at a level in compliance with industrial user permit limits. The base sewer system layout, operations data, wet well cleaning schedule, and dissolved sulfides sampling data were reviewed; a recently installed chemical injection system was evaluated as part of a long-term solution; and a cost estimate was prepared for the recommended solution. Mitigation strategies and approaches included additional hydrogen sulfide data collection; upgrade of the existing chemical injection system and installation of an additional upstream system; increased frequency of cleaning of sewer mains, wet wells and pier wet wells, and of mains after the sailing of each ship; performance of CCTV inspections; and preparation of a hydraulic model of the NAS sewer system.
